Victoria Johnson '00
Media Relations Manager, Salk Institute for Biological Studies
Combining my media and public relations, marketing, and broadcast news experiences into one role, I am the manager of media relations at The Salk Institute.
I began my career as a broadcast journalist in 2006 and am currently the weekend weather anchor at FOX 5 San Diego. I report for FOX as well. Before landing at FOX, I worked for KSBY News as a weekend anchor, forecaster and multimedia journalist. I flew for nearly seven years in "Chopper 8" for KFMB-TV, the CBS affiliate in San Diego, delivering breaking news and traffic reports. I have been a realtor since 2006 and have also worked in public relations and marketing.
I combined my love for flying, reporting and aerial videography by filming the aerial video seen in the National Geographic Channel's Great Migrations 2010 nature documentary miniseries, and contributed additional video to Secrets de la Isla Guadalupe, a Blue Ocean Film Festival finalist.
Coming from a "Navy Town", I have long been an avid supporter and spokesperson for numerous active duty military and veteran organizations such as the Tailhook Association, Freedom Station, Blue Angels Foundation and Air Group One, the San Diego wing of the Commemorative Air Force. After flying in an F/A-18 Hornet with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, I scripted a nationwide media campaign for their 2012 season.
A graduate of the University of San Diego, I hold a BA in Communication Studies. I enjoy mentoring others and have acted as a mentor for the Associated Press APTRA Academy.
In my spare time, I enjoy horseback riding, scuba diving, flying and traveling. My dream is to complete my license as a private pilot.
